Do you have a second for the piano man?

The answer is yes. Today, June 30th, an extra second will be added to the clock. The “Leap Second” will happen at approximately 8 p.m. EDT.

I’d like to put that extra second to good use. Please watch…

My hometown doesn’t have the best reputation when it comes to homelessness. Police once arrested a man for charging his cell phone at the pavilion in a public park. Instances like that once earned Sarasota, Florida the title of “America’s Meanest City”. But it’s just not true.

A viral video has residents changing their tune. Hundreds of people are now sharing video of a homeless man playing a piano which is part of a public art project downtown. And the reviews are positive.

“Give this man a job! Music…good for the soul!” Sherri wrote on Facebook

And hundreds of more comments on the local TV station’s page.

“He brought tears to my eyes. So gifted,” says Susan.

He is a son, a husband who fell on hard times after the death of his wife, and a father who lost custody of his toddler son to protective custody because of his own substance abuse problems.

I hope this attention earns Sarasota’s piano man, a new set of keys… perhaps to a home.
